The Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD) Annual Report 2024 captures another year of dedication to protecting Belize’s Chiquibul–Maya Mountains region, one of Mesoamerica’s most critical biodiversity corridors.

The publication provides a comprehensive overview of the organization’s programs, partnerships, and financial performance for the fiscal year, as well as updates on strategic initiatives that continue to safeguard the country’s natural and cultural heritage.

Key Highlights

  • Forest Protection and Enforcement
FCD Rangers conducted hundreds of patrols across the Chiquibul National Park, Caracol Archaeological Reserve, and Vaca Forest Reserve—deterring illegal logging, farming, and wildlife trafficking through cross-border collaboration and SMART monitoring.

  • Research and Monitoring
Scientific staff and partners expanded data collection on watersheds, biodiversity, and climate threats, reinforcing evidence-based decision-making for conservation policy and restoration planning.

  • Community and Education Programs
Environmental education and livelihood initiatives reached border communities and schools, strengthening local stewardship through awareness campaigns, field trips, and outreach events.

  • Partnerships and Governance
With continued support from the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT), Fortis Belize, U.S. Department of the Interior, and other national and international partners, FCD advanced integrated management strategies for the Western Maya Mountains Landscape.

  • Financial Stewardship
Transparent accounting and independent audits confirm FCD’s fiscal integrity and responsible management of donor resources.
