Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD) is pleased to present the Integrated Human Footprint Report – Western Maya Mountains (2020–2024), authored by Mr. Wilmer Guerra, Biodiversity Research, Inventory, and Monitoring Technician at FCD.
This report was developed under the “Strengthening Landscape Management in the Western-Maya Mountains” initiative, funded by the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT).

The report provides a consolidated analysis of human activities within the Western Maya Mountains, focusing on the Vaca Forest Reserve (VFR), Caracol Archaeological Reserve (CAR), and Chiquibul National Park (CNP). Using remote sensing, aerial surveys, and field data collected through the Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART), the study quantifies the scale and impact of deforestation, forest fires, and agricultural expansion across this critical conservation landscape.
